Strike Cancelled: LibertyBus welcomes strike U-turn

LibertyBus has welcomed the decision of Unite to call off the threatened five days of industrial action that would otherwise have seriously disrupted the lives of people in Jersey.

“Calling off the strike is the right thing to do” said Kevin Hart, LibertyBus General Manager. “We are pleased to see that Unite have backed down and will now let due process at the Tribunal take its course. We have always said, from the very start, that we would abide by the Tribunal outcome. It begs the question why Unite have maintained their threats for so long.”

“As much as we welcome this u-turn, Unite must recognise the unnecessary anxiety that this on-off strike threat has caused, the extra expense people have incurred and the total lack of understanding they have shown to the people of Jersey. They owe the people of Jersey an apology.”

“What the Union needs to do next is to stop using the threat of strike as the action of first resort; the people of Jersey and Liberty Bus will not be bullied.” said Dai Powell, Chief Executive. “I’d like to thank the many Islanders that have expressed their support for us in recent days – and I’d like to thank the near on 40 drivers who had offered to provide a service on strike days, putting the public first.”

Services on the proposed strike days will now run as normal. A Sunday service will operate on Bank Holiday Monday
